7 Things You Didn't Know about Renting A Dumpster

It's not every single day that you need to rent a dumpster.  It's a purchase most people will only make a few times in their life.  There are things that we customers don't usually know about the rental process.  Below are seven things you didn't know about dumpster rentals.

There are Different Sizes

We often find that people aren't aware that there are a pretty wide variety of dumpster sizes. Dumpsters typically range from 10 cubic yards to 40 cubic yards.  Not only will the size affect how much you can load into the dumpster, but it will also impact the pricing of your rental.  The bigger the dumpster the more expensive it is.  When renting a dumpster, you want to best size for your needs, but it is always recommended that if you are unsure, you get one size up from your estimate.  This will make it less expensive than having to have your dumpster emptied and returned if you need additional space.

You Could Need A Permit

Depending on your county and city restrictions, you could need a permit to get a dumpster.  In Park City, you need a permit for a dumpster if you need to have it placed on the street side.  If the dumpster is on your property, there is no need for a permit.  This is always something to keep in mind with your project to avoid unnecessary fines and headaches.

You Can Fill A Dumpster More Than Once

What if you have a big project that needs more than one dumpster load?  You can always request to have a dumpster emptied and returned.  This is perfect for bigger projects and new construction of homes where there is a lot of trash and debris.

If you think that you this is going to be the case for your project, just ask for pricing for an empty and return.

You Can't Put Hazardous Material in a Dumpster

While it might seem like you can throw anything into a dumpster rental, this is not the case.  All laws on hazardous materials must be followed when renting a dumpster.  That means that if you can't throw it away in your regular trash can, you probably shouldn't throw it in your dumpster rental.  All trash ends up going to local dumps, and we must be careful about not disposing of any hazardous materials that could impact the environment and leach into the soil.

There Are Weight Limits

A common misconception with dumpster rentals is that as long as it fits in the dumpster, you don't have to worry about anything.  In fact,  all dumpster rental companies have weight limits for each dumpster size.  If you go over the weight limit, there are additional charges that will need to be paid.  This is the case because dumpster rental companies have to pay for the extra weight when they dispose of your trash at a local dump.  It also cost more in fuel to haul heavier loads.  If you have heavy materials like concrete that you will be throwing in your dumpster,  keep in mind that you might be charged if you go over your specified weight limit.

You Can Reserve Online

We often get people calling in to reserve a dumpster, but you can also reserve our dumpsters online.  As long as you request a dumpster a few days ahead of time online, we can confirm and assure that your dumpster will be where you need it on time.

You Don't Need to Be Onsite for Delivery or Pickup

Homeowners will often ask when they need to be home for their dumpster delivery and pickup.  We don't require that you are home or present for delivery.  We will discuss any special instructions on where to place the dumpster and then will take care of everything.  That means you can keep doing what you need and don't have to work your schedule around your drop-off or pickup.
